Car Rental
Car rental in Jordan is fairly expensive in
comparison to Europe and USA, but there are
plenty of choices available in Amman, Aqaba
and at Queen Alia airport. All the main
international car rental companies operate
in Amman, and some have offices in other
cities. Rental cars have green number plates
with yellow writing, whereas Jordanian
private cars have white number plates. When
you are calling to compare prices, be sure
to check the amount of deposit required, as
it can be very high. Obtain good insurance
and read the contract thoroughly. Prices
should range between 20-60 JDs per day for a
medium-sized car.
Taxis
Taxis are inexpensive and often the most
convenient form of transportation in Jordan,
even over substantial distances, such as the
trip between Amman and Aqaba. Private taxis
are painted yellow; they can be taken from
ranks outside larger hotels, or hailed in
the street. Taxis have meters, but these are
not always used at late night, so it is
advisable to agree the cost beforehand. The
same applies on long journeys. Taxi drivers
are friendly, know the city well, and
usually speak English.
Buses
Several companies offer charter bus tours
and regular tours to tourist attractions.
Jett, Alpha, Petra and Trust transport
companies operate a modern, air conditioned
fleet.
